The role of the Church in Kenya is not restricted to Sunday services or evangelical activities. It goes far beyond these essentially empirical undertakings. Those evangelized are to be nurtured in their faith for greater holistic and fruitfulness. The three thronged approach, education, evangelism and health has not been by chance. These were key strategic interventions that unveiled the entire purpose for which the Church of Christ exists, giving life in its wholeness. People must be healthy in their mind, body and spirit. It is this correlation that prompted the Church since the days of the early missionaries to establish schools, hospitals and churches throughout the country. Today as we stand here to celebrate our centenary, it cannot escape our conscience that Maranda School was founded in 1918 by a local missionary, the Rev. Shadrack A. Osewe.

This places Maranda in a unique position since unlike others founded by missionaries from overseas that are impacting generations to-date, our very own as mentioned, played that vital role. We must therefore revisit our history with a view of getting more motivated to follow the very path of missionary zeal for holistic development.

We are keen to strengthen chaplaincy and mentorship programmes among the ongoing efforts so that our products remain distinguished, well groomed citizens and change agents. I urge each and every one of us to walk with us and carry with us every dream and mega ideas and resources that can make Maranda a typical giant that it must always be in terms of academic, discipline and inclusivity. Maranda high school has gone through several phases of growth. This has been as a result of concerted effort of all stakeholders; the ever-visionary Boards of Management over the years, the Sponsor, the parents through the Parents Association, the Government, Private Partners among others.

The Maranda High School teaching staff has seen growth over time courtesy of the Teachers Service Commission.

To us, Maranda is unique in many ways. Apart from consistently performing very well, the school has also made history by setting standards and consequently breaking it. As you may be aware, in 2018, Maranda produced the highest number of students who qualified to join public universities. In 2019, despite of enrolling the largest number of candidates ever in the history of this country, Maranda again broke its own record by yet again producing the highest number of students who qualified for the university admission. This therefore puts Maranda in a class of its own nationally. I must say that my office has worked very closely with the school and we all share the glory that Maranda has brought us as we celebrate this day, Indeed there are quite a lot that the Ministry through my office has done, however a lot more still remains to be done and I hope we will do this at the slightest moment we get the capacity to do so.
